7.5% Increase in Public Transport Fares

From Monday 6 January 2014, public transport fares will increase by 7.5%. So if you haven’t already then what better time to become a member with us here at Cycle2City!

A New Direction for Cycling in Queensland

The Parliamentary Committee has recently released a report on cycling issues in Queensland which gives recommendations that if adopted would make the Sunshine State a better and safer place to live and ride a bike.

The report has attention to planning detail with its call to strengthen existing cycling strategies and provisions through government planning and delivering strategies that would see the delivery of a safer connected bikeway network across the state.

68 recommendations are put forward by the Parliamentary Committee, including having flashing lights displayed in daylight hours, and infringement penalties for children being tripled and brought in line with adult drivers.

Bicycle Queensland will now be working with the State Government through the Transport Minister and his department (Transport and Main Roads) to see the report turned into positive action for all Queenslanders.

Severe Thunderstorm warning for South-East Queensland

There is currently a severe thunderstorm warning for South-East Queensland with both destructive winds and large hailstones. These thunderstorms are moving towards both North-East and South-East Queensland so please take care and ride home safely in these wet conditions.


Jonathan Canning: C2C’s New Workshop Manager

You may have realized by now, but in case you have been hiding under a rock these past couple of months, we have welcomed in a new addition to the Cycle2City family! Jonathan Canning is our new full-time mechanic and Workshop Manager, who has a wide experience in all fields of bikes, particularly specializing in road bikes.

Originally from Mt. Isa, Jonathan moved to Brisbane in 2000 after working in the Mt. Isa mines as a fitter. In 2006, he began working as a mechanic at My Bike Shop in Mitchelton where two years later he became the manager.

In late 2009, Jonathan left My Bike Shop to work at Velo Bicycles in the Grange, later going on to work at 99 bikes and then again on to NRG Cycles. Before joining us here at Cycle2City, Jonathan was the operations manager/wheel builder at Velocity Wheels Australia.

With all of this background knowledge and experience behind him, it is safe to say that whatever your problem is, Jonathan can fix it! Both friendly and professional, Jonathan is here to help every Monday – Thursday, 8:00am – 4:00pm. So if you haven’t already, come and say hi and give a huge welcome to our great new mechanic 🙂
